Dear Dollard Baseball Members,
I hope you are all enjoying your off season so far and are not suffering from baseball withdrawal too much. I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! Your DABA executive has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming 2019 season as we look to make 2019 the best summer yet! Our registration was up significantly again last year and we hope to keep growing the sport in our community.
Online registration for the 2019 season is now open! The good news is we have frozen fees for the 2019 so you will pay the same rate in 2019 as you did in 2018.
Our first in person registration of the season will be held the weekend of January 12-13, from 9:30-2:30 at the Civic Centre. We will have laptops present so that you can enter your information directly into our system. For payments, you will have the option to pay by cash, cheque, or credit card. We will be selling t-shirts, hoodies, and helmets at our registration table. Please note that we have ample supply of all on hand and you will not have to wait for anything that you order. You will be able to take your helmet or hoodies with you as soon as you pay. We will also be holding our first ever used equipment sale. We will be selling used bats, catchers’ equipment, and pants for very low costs.
I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to register ASAP. As our registration has been trending higher we are making more teams at each level. We need to know if we need to order more uniforms and equipment at certain levels, and it helps us recruit coaches if we know the number of teams we will be hosting. If you know your child is playing, please register as soon as possible.
Our winter clinics begin on Saturday January 19th. We have maintained the price this year at $125 for the entire program. For anyone aged Mosquito and higher, that $125 will have the pitching clinics included at no extra charge. As we have limited spaces available please register ASAP. Some levels are already almost full! The kids really enjoy themselves and it will surely improve their game and help them enjoy their summer.
We will be offering Spring Baseball League teams again this season. We will be attempting to have teams at the Mosquito and PeeWee levels this spring. Our final decisions will be taken in late March depending on the amount of registrations. If we have enough registered players, tryouts will begin in the middle of April. The Spring Baseball League begins around May 1st and runs for 5 weeks before the holding their playoffs. Once again players trying out for ‘A’ teams cannot try out for the Spring Baseball League teams. Priority on these teams will be given to players not eligible to try out for ‘A’ teams. (The guideline remains the same as last year: Anyone going away for more than two weeks during the baseball season cannot try out for any ‘A’ team). Shall it occur, anyone who registers for the Spring Baseball League and is not selected on a team will receive a full refund.
On a last note, we are always looking for more volunteers. Our coaching application form is currently online. If you are interested in coaching, please fill out the form. We also need other volunteers including but not limited to conveners, committee members, team managers, as well as umpires and scorekeepers. Please let us know if you are willing to help out in providing the kids with a great summer.
I look forward to seeing you all on the field in April,
Yours in baseball,
