There are two levels of Atom baseball to meet the skill sets and competitive spirits of our players.
Atom A Expos
Atom A baseball is played with the use of a pitching machine operated by the team at bat’s coach. Hitters are limited to 5 pitches per at bat and may strike out should they not put the ball in play within the 5 pitch allotment, excluding foul balls. All players in the line up are in the batting order and there are unlimited defensive switches for the 9 players in the field throughout the game with Fair Play rules applying at all times. In addition to several other rules to promote sportsmanship, fun and speed of play, offences are limited to scoring 5 runs in an inning with the exception of the “open inning” as identified by the umpire.
Atom A teams tend to have a roster of 10-12 players, depending on total registration levels.
The Dollard Expos base are our Atom A team competing in the Ligue de Baseball Lac St-Louis versus teams from other associations in the Region, such as:
- Lakeshore (Beaconsfield/Kirkland)
- West Island (Pointe Claire/Dorval)
- Presqu’Ile (Ile Perrot, Dorion)
The regular season consists of 20 games and runs from late May through the middle of August. The games may be played on weekday evenings and weekends over the course of the season. Players can count on 1-2 practices per week in addition to their regular season games.
The Regional play-offs include all teams and immediately follow the end of the regular season. The Regional champion gets the honour of representing the Lac St-Louis region in the Provincial championships.
In addition to the regular season and regional play-offs, the team may play in as many as three tournaments, including the very popular and convenient Dollard Atom Tournament in June.
Atom B baseball is also played with a pitching machine. However, if a batter fails to put a ball in play after the 5 pitch limit, they will be permitted to hit off a batting tee. As in Atom A, all players are listed in the batting order and can be switched in and out of the defensive line-up in an unlimited fashion.
Atom B teams have only 6 players in the field defensively, so their roster of players tends to be smaller than that of the A level.
Atom B is recreational in nature and teams compete in the DPSL House League from Dollard, St-Laurent and Pierrefonds.
The regular season runs from late May through the middle of August followed immediately by the league play-offs, in which all teams compete.
The Dollard Atom B teams also have the opportunity to compete in our own Dollard Atom Tournament in June. Teams may choose to register in other tournaments as well.
