There are two levels of 9U baseball to meet the skill sets and competitive spirits of our players.
9U A Expos
9U A baseball is played with the use of a pitching machine operated by the team at bat’s coach. Hitters are limited to 5 pitches per at bat and may strike out should they not put the ball in play within the 5 pitch allotment, excluding foul balls. All players in the lineup are in the batting order and there are unlimited defensive switches for the 9 players in the field throughout the game with Fair Play rules applying at all times. In addition to several other rules to promote sportsmanship, fun and speed of play, offences are limited to scoring 5 runs in an inning with the exception of the “open inning” as identified by the umpire.
9U A teams tend to have a roster of 10-12 players, depending on total registration at this level.
The Dollard Expos are our 9U A team competing in the Ligue de Baseball Lac St-Louis versus teams from other associations in the Region, such as: (Teams may vary depending on years)
- Châteauguay
- Kahnawake
- Lachine
- Lakeshore (Beaconsfield/Kirkland)
- Lasalle
- Pierrefonds
- Presqu’ile
- Rigaud
- Soulanges
- St. Laurent
- St. Lazare
- Suroît (Beauharnois, Mercier and Ste. Martine)
- Valleyfield
- Verdun
- West Island (Pointe Claire/Dorval)
Players can expect a regular season consisting of around 20 games, and to be on the field approximately 3-4 times per week from late May through the middle of August.
The Regional Championships include all teams and immediately follow the end of the regular season. The Regional champion gets the honour of representing the Lac St-Louis region in the Provincial Championships.
In addition to the regular season and Regionals, the team may enter into a sanctioned BQ tournament, and is automatically registered to play in the very popular and convenient Dollard 9U Tournament in June.
9U B
9U B baseball is also played with a pitching machine. However, if a batter fails to put a ball in play after the 3 pitch limit, they will be permitted to hit off a batting tee. As in 9U A, all players are listed in the batting order and can be switched in and out of the defensive line-up in an unlimited fashion.
9U B teams have only 6 players in the field defensively and bat 6 players per inning, so their roster of players tends to be smaller than that of the A level.
9U B is recreational in nature and teams also compete in the Ligue de Baseball Lac St-Louis against teams from other associations in the region such as: (Teams may vary depending on years)
